How we decide what gets published

Last updated Jul 31, 2026

The standard every submission is held to, and exactly how paid placements are kept separate from it.

What we publish

A Build Log is a full account of something you built — the problem, the stack, what broke, the result. A Quick Win is a single tip or fix, a couple of minutes to read. A Comparison answers "which should I use" from having actually built something real with both sides. An Explainer teaches one concept from something we measured, not from a search-and-summarize of what everyone else already wrote. All four are judged the same way: is this an honest, specific account of real work, not a highlight reel with the failures edited out.

How posts are structured

Every post is broken into at least two clearly labelled H2 sections (Build Logs read best with three or more). Label each section with what it actually covers — "What broke" or "The fix that worked", not "Part 2" or "Introduction". The post title is already the page heading, so don't add another top-level heading in the body; use sub-headings only under an H2, and keep any one section to roughly 500 words before breaking it up.

The free-tier rule

Free submissions can't include backlinks, product mentions, or company promotion in the body — byline only. This is the rule that keeps free stories readable as honest accounts instead of disguised advertising, and it's enforced the same way for every contributor, regardless of who they are.

In practice: every submission is automatically scanned for links, bare domains, email addresses, phone numbers, and common self-promotional phrasing before a human ever reviews it. A match doesn't auto-reject anything — it just flags the submission so the moderator knows to look closer. A moderator makes the actual call, and may trim a promotional line, request a change, or decline the piece if the rule isn't met.

Review process

Every submission goes into a review queue before publishing. Nothing goes live automatically. A moderator checks it against the free-tier rule above, confirms it reads as a genuine account rather than promotional content, and may lightly edit for clarity or formatting before it publishes.

How paid placements are disclosed

Featured is the only paid tier on the site, and it's held to a different, explicit standard: every Featured placement is visibly labeled as paid, and any outbound link in one carries rel="sponsored nofollow" by design — never blended in with free-tier content, never quietly. If a story isn't on the Featured page, it wasn't paid for.

How we use AI

This is a site about building with AI, so it's fair to ask where AI is and isn't involved in what you read here. This is how it works today.

A person decides what publishes. No story goes live, and none is turned down, without a moderator deciding it. Every submission is read by a person before it can appear.

AI-sounding writing gets a closer look. Submissions are automatically scanned for stock phrases that tend to come from AI-generated text — things like "in conclusion," or "let's dive in." This is a plain pattern match, not an AI detector: it can't tell who or what wrote something, and it gets things wrong in both directions. A match only flags the submission so the moderator reads it more carefully. It never rejects anything by itself.

Translations are added by hand. The site doesn't run automatic machine translation. A translated version of a post exists only because an editor added it to that post themselves.

Our tools don't send your input to an AI service. The AEO and SEO checkers and the site search run on fixed rules and database queries. The address you scan or the words you search for aren't passed to an AI model.

If any of this changes, we'll update this page and its date.

Corrections

If something published turns out to be wrong, we fix it and say so — corrections are noted on the post, not made silently. Full policy on About.
